Abstract

Through self-knowledge, the human being engages in reflection upon the nature of his or her existence in the world. These normative principles—what ought and ought not to be—protect the individual from permissiveness and reductionist conceptions of existence. Nahj al-Balagha, as an authoritative text within Islam, is also regarded as a significant anthropological source due to the human-centered approach embedded in its discourse. The present study adopts a descriptive design with an applied objective and is conducted using documentary and library-based research methods. Its purpose is to examine the strategies for enhancing the ontological capacity of human beings based on Nahj al-Balagha, with its primary discussions extracted from this text. The findings indicate that knowledge of God, attention to the reciprocal relationship between knowledge and intellect, awakening from heedlessness, pursuing the path of self-knowledge, and adherence to religious commandments constitute the principal strategies for increasing the ontological capacity of the human being. Accordingly, these strategies move the individual from a state of heedlessness and limitation toward a condition of awareness and fuller potential. This transformation ultimately ensures individual felicity and, on a broader horizon, the well-being of society and humanity at large.
