Abstract
The present study aims to examine individuals’ supplications in the qunūt of night prayer through an analysis of worshippers’ narratives. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach and the narrative inquiry method. Participants were selected purposively through convenience sampling. Data were collected by interviewing 16 worshippers, and the stories of their supplications in the qunūt of night prayer were recorded. The findings indicated that participants offered prayers for their relatives and kin, friends, those to whom they felt indebted, individuals who had wronged them and toward whom they harbored resentment, as well as for martyrs and religious scholars. Praying for those with whom they were displeased or at odds emerged as a common feature among most participants. Supplicating on behalf of others—especially those toward whom one feels bitterness, hurt, or grudges—facilitates heartfelt forgiveness of them. This cleansing of the heart from rancor and resentment prepares the ground for subsequent supplications in the qunūt of night prayer, in which the worshipper asks God for pardon and forgiveness, beseeching divine mercy upon oneself.
